Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Move to England After Trump's Re-Election

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly relocated to rural England, leaving the United States in the wake of Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election.

A Permanent Move to the UK

The 66-year-old talk show host and comedian, along with de Rossi, 51, is said to have purchased a property in the Cotswolds, a picturesque region about 100 miles from London. Known for its charm and celebrity residents, the area offers a quieter lifestyle, far from the bustling cities of Los Angeles or London.

The couple had already bought their Cotswolds home prior to the election, but according to sources cited by TMZ, Trump’s win left them feeling “very disillusioned,” prompting a firm decision to “get the hell out” of the U.S.

Selling Their Montecito Mansion

As part of the transition, DeGeneres and de Rossi are planning to sell their lavish Bali-inspired mansion in Montecito, California, which they purchased in 2019 for $27 million. The home, spanning 8,188 square feet, includes five bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and unique design elements like bamboo ceilings and flamed black limestone.

Star-Studded Neighborhood

By moving to the Cotswolds, DeGeneres and de Rossi will join a community of A-listers, including David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, and Elizabeth Hurley. Even royalty is nearby, as King Charles owns Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.

The couple has already been spotted exploring their new surroundings, including a visit to Jeremy Clarkson's pub in the area.

A New Chapter for Ellen

The move marks a significant shift for DeGeneres, whose career faced challenges following accusations of fostering a toxic workplace on her daytime talk show, which ended in 2022. She addressed her struggles in her Netflix stand-up special For Your Approval, joking about being “kicked out of show business” and sharing insights into her post-show life.

Political Ties

DeGeneres, a high-profile supporter of Democratic candidates, had endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election and donated to her campaign. Despite the election outcome, sources suggest the move is not just politically motivated but also a chance for a fresh start abroad.

As the couple settles into their new English countryside retreat, fans will be watching closely to see how they embrace this new chapter of their lives.
