Father of Missing Hawaii Woman Found Dead in Los Angeles, LAPD Confirms
LOS ANGELES — Amid the ongoing search for 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi, a missing woman from Maui, her father, Ryan Kobayashi, was tragically found dead near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Ryan Kobayashi, 58, had traveled to Los Angeles to aid in the search for his daughter, who disappeared after a layover at LAX on November 8 while en route from Hawaii to New York City.
Details of the Incident
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed Kobayashi's death, stating he was discovered in a parking lot near 6151 W. Century Blvd. at approximately 4 a.m. The cause of death has not been disclosed by authorities.
A nonprofit organization working with the family issued a statement suggesting that Kobayashi may have taken his own life.
"The Kobayashi family endured a devastating tragedy today. After tirelessly searching throughout Los Angeles for 13 days, Hannah's father, Ryan Kobayashi, tragically took his own life," the statement read.
The organization emphasized the family's immense grief and urged the public to respect their privacy while maintaining focus on the search for Hannah.
Timeline of Hannah's Disappearance
Hannah Kobayashi was last seen at LAX on November 8. She was reported missing after failing to arrive at her destination in New York.
- November 10: Hannah was spotted at The Grove shopping mall in Los Angeles.
- November 11: She was last heard from through text messages. Surveillance footage also captured her at a downtown Metro train station with an unidentified individual.
Friends and family reported receiving unusual text messages from Hannah in the days following her disappearance.
Family's Plea for Help
Ryan Kobayashi had been actively representing the family in media interviews, appealing to the public for assistance.
"We're just hoping that she is safe and healthy and alive," Ryan said earlier this month. "If anybody knows anything, we'd really appreciate any kind of help."
Hannah’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon, also made an emotional plea:
"Hannah, we love you. Your mom, sister, and father are all here. The entire world is
looking for you."
She added, "If someone has Hannah, I want you to know she is the kindest, most beautiful soul. Please don't hurt her. Just let her come back to us."
Focus on Finding Hannah
The family has asked for continued support in the search for Hannah while they navigate this profound loss. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is encouraged to contact authorities immediately.
