Summary: Pam Bondi, former Florida attorney general and a longtime Trump ally, is President-elect Trump’s nominee for U.S. attorney general. Bondi has a history as a lobbyist for clients such as Amazon, Uber, and the government of Qatar, working closely with key figures in Trump’s circle.
Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, known for her ties to the Trump administration, has been tapped as the next U.S. attorney general. The announcement came via Trump’s social media platform, hours after Representative Matt Gaetz withdrew his own nomination for the role.
Bondi is currently a partner at Ballard Partners, a high-profile lobbying and government affairs firm led by Brian Ballard, one of Trump’s top fundraisers and described as “the most powerful lobbyist in Trump’s Washington.” At the firm, Bondi chairs the Corporate Regulatory Compliance practice, advising major clients on enhancing corporate responsibility and navigating regulatory challenges.
Her tenure at Ballard has seen her represent a wide range of clients, including Amazon, Uber, and British American Tobacco. Bondi also lobbied on behalf of Nippon Steel as it sought to acquire United States Steel. One of her notable roles was lobbying for the government of Qatar on human trafficking issues, earning $115,000 per month before pausing her lobbying work in 2019 to join Trump’s defense team during his first impeachment trial.
Bondi’s work with Ballard resumed after her stint as a special adviser to the president and as a special government employee in the Office of White House Counsel during 2019–2020. Additionally, she holds prominent roles with the America First Policy Institute, a pro-Trump nonprofit, where she chairs both the Center for Litigation and the Center for Law and Justice.
Bondi’s nomination aligns with her longstanding loyalty to Trump. A member of Trump’s Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during his first term, she has consistently been a prominent surrogate for his campaigns. In 2020, Trump appointed her as a Kennedy Center trustee, further cementing their political relationship.
Bondi’s confirmation process is expected to be closely watched due to her lobbying background and ties to major corporations and foreign governments.
