Two Victims Reported in Dnipro After Russian Missile Strike
### Two Victims Reported in Dnipro After Russian Missile Strike
The head of the Dnipro region, Serhy Lysak, announced that two individuals were injured following a missile launch by Russia in the Dnipro area this morning. A 57-year-old man received on-site treatment for his injuries, while a 42-year-old woman was transported to a hospital for further care.
The missile attack damaged a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities, although no injuries were reported from that facility. Additionally, nine garages were also impacted, along with an industrial enterprise, according to Lysak's report on Telegram.
In a related incident, two more people were injured and are currently hospitalized following strikes in Kryvyi Rih, located to the west of Dnipro. An administrative building was destroyed during these strikes, and two residential buildings sustained damage.
### What is an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile?
Earlier today, a Russian Yars intercontinental ballistic missile launcher was displayed in Moscow's Red Square. While it’s uncertain if this specific type was used in the morning's attack, it's important to understand the nature of ballistic missiles.
Ballistic missiles can travel thousands of kilometers from their launch site and are categorized into four types: short-range, medium-range, intermediate-range, and long-range. Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), which have the longest range, can reach targets more than 5,500 km (3,418 miles) away, allowing them to strike nearly any location worldwide.
ICBMs can carry conventional munitions, as well as nuclear warheads. They are propelled by rockets initially but follow a free-falling trajectory toward their targets. This distinguishes them from cruise missiles, which use jet engines for flight, such as the British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles that Ukraine fired at Russia yesterday.
### Poland Scrambles Aircraft Amid Ukrainian Strikes
In response to Russian strikes on Ukraine, Poland has deployed its own fighter jets, along with NATO aircraft, to safeguard its airspace. The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command announced on X that its on-duty fighter pairs were scrambled and that ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were put on high alert.
Poland has consistently scrambled aircraft during Russian strikes on Ukraine throughout the ongoing conflict.
### Ukrainian Air Force Confirms ICMB Launch by Russia
The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from the Astrakhan region earlier this morning, targeting Dnipro with various missile types. This marks the first instance of Russia deploying an ICBM against Ukraine in the current conflict.
Ukrainian military forces also claimed to have shot down six Kh-101 cruise missiles during the attack. This development follows recent approval from Washington allowing Ukraine to utilize longer-range missiles like ATACMS, which were reportedly employed earlier this week to strike Russian military installations.
